• Iaclals -- the Indian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studes -- is the officially recognised Indian chapter of the international ACLALS (Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies). Iaclals started in India in 1974.
• The objectives of Iaclals are to promote and coordinate Commonwealth Literature Studies in India, organize seminars and workshops, arrange lectures by writers and scholars including those visiting India, publish a newsletter about activities in the field of Commonwealth Literature in India and in other parts of the world, and hold one annual conference.
• The international ACLALS was started in 1964 with a conference in the University of Leeds.
